Based in the municipality of Neuvic, on the banks of the Isle, the leading river for sturgeon farming in Aquitaine, the Huso Estate controls the farming of these fish and the creation of an excellent caviare, which bears the name of the village which created it.
The Estate Manager offers guided visits. Along the breeding ponds, he explains the history and the life of these sturgeons, which spend 7 years – at the least – in these waters before delivering their precious eggs.
There are several visit packages, “Decouverte” (Discovery), “Initiation”, “Master Class” and “Atelier culinaire au château” (cookery workshop in the chateau) which all end up with a tasting session. They are offered all year round, by reservation only.
A monthly visit is scheduled on the 1st Saturday of every month and every Friday in July and August.
One of the highlights of the visit is going down into one of the ponds to catch a sturgeon.
From 10 people, a choice of date is possible.
The operators also offer to organise visits in foreign languages.
Length of the visit:
1 hour 15 minutes, followed by the tasting session. (Umbrella and boots recommended) – Photos are allowed.
The Estate visit is not recommended for people with reduced mobility.
From €15 to €250 depending on the package chosen.
