The leading wine tourism destination in France, Bordeaux confirms its leadership position with the success of the Cité du Vin, open since June 2016. There have been 4.3 million visits to the Gironde vineyards.

Each year, the Best of Wine Tourism competition, created in Bordeaux in 2002, rewards the most remarkable sites and properties in wine tourism.


21 trophies have been awarded, including 6 Gold.

  • Architecture and scenery
    Château la Dominique (gold), in AOC Saint-Emilion. This property has a quality restaurant, the Terrasse Rouge. The architecture of Jean Nouvel’s cellar is its symbol

    Château Castera (gold) in AOC Médoc. This property located to the north of the peninsula in Saint-Germain-d’Esteuil dates back to feudal times. Such famous people have stayed there as Étienne de la Boétie, Michel Montaigne…

  • Discovery & innovation:
    Château de Reignac (gold) in Saint-Loubès in Entre-deux-Mers. It’s a very chic place. A Scent Garden and a greenhouse designed by Eiffel rub shoulders with a beautiful building from the 16th century.

    Château Lamothe-Bergeron (gold) is a bourgeois cru from AOC Médoc and is located along the “Route des Châteaux”. The 19th-century residence hosts conferences and seminars, with an entire floor made available and facilities such as the 2-hectare park where cocktails and garden parties are held. The château has 4 suites.

  • Jury’s favourite
    Domaine de la Grave is bringing wine tourism to life in a new way by plunging back into 130 years of history. Domaine de la Grave wine tastings, in AOC Bordeaux and Bordeaux Supérieur, offer a circuit in a little train with as many stops as there are original entertainment ideas on offer.

The competition continued for the 6 holders of a Best Of d’Or Bordeaux to Valparaiso in Chile where, on 9 November, a Best Of International 2018 was awarded to Château de Reignac in the Discovery & Innovation category, during the General Assembly of the Great Wine Capitals Network. This network was created in 1999 by the CCI of Bordeaux and is the only one to link the wine regions of “Old Europe” and the “New World”.

The Great Wine Capitals Global Network includes 9 cities/wine tourism regions:
